María Cecilia (Mace) Ferrer es una artista visual y diseñadora que vive entre Detroit, Michigan, y San Juan, Puerto Rico. Fusiona su práctica de dibujo con su práctica de cerámica para crear piezas utilitarias y escultóricas. En algunas de sus obras, las ilustraciones adornan las superficies de sus cerámicas y también son mapas que guían su proceso en la construcción de formas y posibles herramientas. 

Por medio de la exploración de distintos procesos y materiales, la artista narra historias de una mitología personal inspirada en sus vivencias cotidianas, arquetipos femeninos, la cultura y la naturaleza caribeña, los fenómenos climáticos, los ciclos vitales, y el transcurrir del tiempo. Sean para uso diario o estético, María Cecilia mezcla el oficio de la cerámica y el rigor técnico con el ejercicio de lo que para ella es la libertad y la transformación.

María Cecilia recibió un Bachillerato en Cerámica en Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, 2015; y recibió una Maestría en Cerámica en Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, 2024. En 2020 creó la marca Ma Cerámica. Su obra ha sido expuesta en Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan y el Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD).

María Cecilia (Mace) Ferrer is a visual artist and designer based between Detroit, Michigan, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. She merges her drawing practice with her ceramic practice to create utilitarian and sculptural pieces. In her work, illustrations often adorn the surfaces of her ceramics, and they also work as maps that guide her process of constructing forms and possible tools.

Through the exploration of different processes and materials, the artist tells stories of personal mythology inspired by her daily experiences, feminine archetypes, Caribbean culture and nature, climatic phenomena, life cycles, and the passing of time. Whether for daily or aesthetic use, María Cecilia mixes the craft of ceramics and technical rigor with exercising what she considers freedom and transformation.

Maria Cecilia received a BFA in Ceramics from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, in 2015; and an MFA in Ceramics from Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in 2024. In 2020, she created the brand Ma Cerámica. Her work has been exhibited at Cranbrook Art Museum, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD), Detroit, Michigan.
